Richard McLean

Richard has more than 30 years’ commercial experience. With successful start-ups and the growth of large companies behind him, Richard enjoys helping New Zealand companies seeking to get new products and ideas to local or offshore markets.

Richard has had 25 years specifically in the ICT sector and has held senior management positions in New Zealand and Australia. He spent several years building a small technology company into a large public company, eventually listing on NASDAQ. His skills and experience range from sales and marketing to group management and governance. He currently serves as a non-executive director and chairman for several New Zealand companies, from start-up to large established businesses, including the ventures arm of one of New Zealand’s leading Universities.

Dr Daniel Xu

Daniel is a graduate of the Stanford Ignite entrepreneurship programme and holds a First Class Honours degree in Mechatronics Engineering. In 2016 he completed his PhD creating wearable motion-capture sensors for StretchSense Ltd. His work was featured on the BBC, Engadget and 3 of his patents have been licensed to a wearable tech startup.

Daniel is an Alumni of the Spark (Velocity) programme and in 2015, was awarded 1 of 10 AMP National Scholarships. He is passionate about the creation of technology that challenges the way we think, work and live. Daniel brings his experience to bridging research and development with market research and validation. He also has deep expertise in sensor integration, data analytics, PCB design, drawings and prototyping product ideas. He enjoys coaching and mentoring in his chosen fields.

Ming Cheuk

Ming’s career also started with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering, where he learned the ins and outs of the machines the modern world is built upon. He has recently completed his PhD in this field and has built considerable software skills working in various instrumentation, mobile and cloud projects over the years. His more recent focus has been on bringing cutting edge technology from the research space into the commercial markets.

Ming has strong skills in mobile development and web development, embedded programming, image processing, industrial automation and beacons. In 2016 he successfully combined his knowledge of image processing with his other skills to develop and release one of the first Facebook Messenger bots – called WTFIT – a fun project that was picked up in most major tech blogs and mags around the world.
As a Microsoft Student partner, Ming is part of a team that trains students around New Zealand and connects them to the software industry. He has served as a New Zealand delegate to attend the global summit held in Seattle, Washington. Ming is very good at communicating technical and scientific ideas in plain language. He enjoys using his experience combining R&D with market research and validation towards the commercialisation of technology.
